Abercrombie Today

Today Abercrombie has three major branches of clothing stores under it. In 2000 Hollister one of Abercrombie's branches was established. Hollister's clothing was based on southern California surfing lifestyle. And in 2004 another branch of Abecrombie was established called Ruehl based on casual luxury for college students. Today there are numerous Abercrombie and Hollister stores all around the world. Sadly Ruehl just went out of business in January of 2010 because of over priced clothing. Abercrombie's clothes today range from $24.50- over $200.00 with numerous clothes for men, woman, and kids consisting of pants, polos, t-shirts, bathing suits, sweater, dresses, jackets, jeans, sweats, hoodies, tanks, sandals, bags, cologne, perfume, skirts, blouses and many more articles of clothing. Abercrombie is ranked he 6th most popular brand in the world and continues to be a top selling clothing store to many people all over the world.

The new Abercrombie & Fitch reopened shortly afterwards with a preppy outdoors theme similar to the company's original roots. After Fitch

In 1928, Fitch retired from the company and sold his shares to his brother-in-law, James S. Cobb. Soon Cobb became president and Otis L. Guernsey, an employee of the store, became vice president. Under Cobb, Abercrombie and Fitch acquired Von Lengerke & Detmold, a well-respected New York dealer of fine European-made sporting guns and fishing tackle, as well as that company's Chicago branch, Von Lengerke & Antoine. Cobb also acquired Griffin and Howe another gunsmith company. Merchandise from both Von Lengerke & Detmold and Griffin & Howe was carried at A&F's Madison Avenue store. By this time, A&F was also selling equipment for polo, golf, and tennis. By 1929, sales of US $6.3 million were reported.

Fitch takes over.

During the Fitch era of the Abercrombie & Fitch Co., the company experienced great success. Fitch knew how to expand and manage the company in a way which popularized it. He gave the store a hip atmosphere and created its first mail-order catalog released in 1909. In 1928, Ezra retired from the Company, leaving it under new management. Fitch spent the rest of his years in nature and the wilderness. He died on June 16, 1930.

The history of Abercrombie and Fitch Co.

On June 4, 1892, I founded Abercrombie Company as a small waterfront outdoors shop at No.36 South Street in downtown Manhattan New York, where wealthy New York lawyer Ezra Fitch was one of my regular customers. In 1900, Fitch bought a share into the successfully growing Abercrombie Company. In 1904, it was associated and renamed "Abercrombie & Fitch Co." I later entered into disputes with Ezra Fitch over Fitch's visions of expanding the Company to appeal to the general public, as Abercrombie sought to maintain the Company's standing as an elite store. After many years of conflict, I left the company in 1907, selling my share of it to Fitch, who continued the Company under his own management and liking.

About Me!

I was born on June 6, 1867 and I am the original founder of the modern American lifestyle Abercrombie and Fitch. A expert in the outdoors, my first store consisted of camping and outdoor equipment. Then I opened the Company as New York's outfitter for the exclusive and later partnered up with co-founder Ezra Fitch, both of us managed the company through great years of success. After leaving the company, I lived the remainder of my life in Adirondacks with my family until my death in 1931. Today, my company, Abercombie and Fitch remains as a prominent American clothing brand. My influence in the company remains strong today with two different stores one for adults and one for kids.
